The initial trailer for Marvel Rivals generated a lot of comparisons with Overwatch, with some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes replacing characters like Hanzo and Reaper.
Not all the characters confirmed for Marvel Rivals featured prominently in the trailer, but developer NetEase has confirmed 19 characters that will be in the game at launch. It’s not yet clear whether all 19 will be available immediately at the start of the Closed Alpha, which begins on 10 May 2024.

Although 19 characters at launch may seem like a limited number, Overwatch debuted with just 21 heroes. So Marvel Rivals isn’t that far behind.
What’s more, there are rumours that more heroes will be added to the game after launch, leading Marvel fans to speculate wildly about the possible arrival of Thor, Fight Machine or Daredevil. For the time being, however, no characters other than these 19 have been confirmed.
It is not yet known whether these characters will fit into a class structure similar to Overwatch and whether they will have ultimate abilities.
The trailer showed that the characters have “team” abilities, which seem to amplify one of them when combined. It’s not yet known whether the characters can team up with any other Marvel heroes, or whether there are specific characters that synergise with each other.
